eco - Association of the Internet Industry and its topDNS initiative ...

... invites you to the exclusive preparatory workshop for the “Forum for Internet Infrastructure Operators” in Frankfurt am Main on November 5, 2024!

The Internet is unique. Thousands of independent providers worldwide ensure that the technical infrastructure works. After all, the Internet is an important basis for most economic processes and social activities today.

Nevertheless, various forms of online abuse undermine trust in the use of the Internet. It is therefore important that the various infrastructure operators work together within their means to effectively prevent and combat online abuse: DNS providers, hosting and cloud service providers, internet service providers, content delivery networks, etc.

Different types of online abuse can best be combated at different levels of the infrastructure. In addition to phishing, malware, botnets, pharming and spam (as a delivery mechanism), there are other types of “content-related” abuse that cover a broad spectrum.

Communication between operators is crucial, for reasons of efficiency of course, but also because it ultimately affects relationships with their mutual customers. Better coordination of anti-abuse measures will enhance the reputation of the industry as a whole - with users and companies, but also with authorities and regulators.

However, forums such as ICANN are not the appropriate place for this kind of coordination. In particular, dealing with “content-related” forms of online abuse is outside ICANN's technically very limited mandate. We therefore want to create a forum that brings together all relevant stakeholders to improve the coordination of anti-abuse measures between Internet infrastructure operators in their respective roles and capabilities.

The “Forum for Internet Infrastructure Operators” will enable providers to

  • exchange information: on common challenges in cooperation, best practices and the development of new communication channels with each other and with other players;
  • learn about the prevalence of different types of online abuse, existing procedures and standards for preventing online abuse and the distribution of roles and responsibilities according to the respective possibilities;
  • Development of cooperation mechanisms and workflows for reporting and processing abuse reports in order to reduce the human and financial resources required to combat and prevent online abuse on the Internet.
A two-day meeting will take place in Amsterdam on February 4 and 5, 2025, to which a selected group of providers will be invited to initiate these processes. In preparation for this meeting, eco - Association of the Internet Industry and its topDNS initiative are offering interested internet infrastructure providers a one-day preparatory workshop on November 5, 2024 in Frankfurt am Main.
