The Government of Anguilla, registry of the currently globally popular top level domain .ai (Anguilla), and the nTLD registry Identity Digital (formerly Donuts) have announced a new, initially five-year partnership. According to a press release, it is intended to increase the government's revenue from .ai; at the same time, Anguilla will benefit from Identity Digital's industry expertise. The latter is seen as an indication that Identity Digital will act as the backend registry for .ai in the future; this task was previously handled via the platform of CoCCA (Council of Country Code Administrators). For Anguilla, .ai is of considerable importance; the currently more than 500,000 domains generated 20 percent of the total revenue of the overseas territory of the United Kingdom in 2023 alone. The government of Anguilla plans to reinvest these funds, including in expanding the airport, improving the technology vocational center and improving healthcare for the elderly. Registrars and domain owners alike should welcome this news as they can look forward to the continued stable operation of .ai.
