The .au Domain Administration (auDA), registry of the Australian country code extension .au, has published its Annual Report 2023-2024. It covers the period from July 2023 to June 2024 and is very comprehensive at 122 pages. According to the report, exactly 4,249,923 .au domains were registered as at 30 June 2024, a slight increase of 0.3 percent compared to the previous year. In 2022-2023, growth was still at 17.6 per cent, which auDA primarily associates with the introduction of second-level domain registrations directly below .au and the digital transformation as a result of the pandemic. At 3,168,755, most domains are currently still registered under .com.au, while there are 769,032 domains directly below .au, with a strong upward trend. In terms of registrations, .au is currently the seventh-largest country code extension worldwide and the tenth-largest among all top-level domains. One hundred per cent availability of .au in the reporting period was important for the registry; in addition, the number of DNS abuse cases fell to 0.0002 per cent, which is well below the global average. ‘During 2023-24, auDA successfully delivered critical .au infrastructure and services and contributed to the community through advocacy, research and grants. Through this work, auDA not only supports Australians online but also promotes improved internet policy and governance on an international stage to benefit internet users globally,’ said auDA CEO Rosemary Sinclair.
