.be struggles with technical pitfalls

Postby Research » Thu 3. Oct 2024, 09:09

DNS Belgium, administrator of the Belgian country code extension .be, has had to postpone the introduction of additional controls for domain holders. It was originally planned that stricter rules would apply to the creation or modification of domain holder contact details with effect from 15 October 2024. They will be checked as soon as they are entered; if the data is incorrect, the registry will immediately issue an error message. In this way, DNS Belgium aims to improve the quality of its own WHOIS database. However, not everything is going as planned yet. According to the registry, tests carried out by a number of domain registrars in a test environment have revealed a number of situations that are not yet fully covered by the additional checks. It has therefore decided to postpone their implementation. This will give them time to investigate these cases in more detail so that there will no longer be a problem when creating or updating a contact at a later date. This problem will also be discussed with the registrars at the beginning of November 2024. Anyone who has recently had problems with their .be domain should therefore contact the registry.
