Disputes over .eu remain favorable

Postby Research » Thu 6. Mar 2025, 18:29

The .eu registry EURid has announced that it will reduce the fees for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) proceedings for another year. In order to continue to support the interests of trademark rights holders, EURid has extended the discount on the .eu ADR procedure fee until the end of 2025. This means that the basic ADR fee per complaint will continue to be only EUR 100 instead of EUR 1,300. The reduction applies to proceedings before both the WIPO Arbitration Court and the Czech Arbitration Court (CAC). Any natural person, company or organization that is the owner of a right (such as a trademark, a trade name, a company name or a family name recognized or established in the European Economic Area) that is identical or confusingly similar to a particular .eu domain that has been registered in a speculative and abusive manner can challenge the registration under the ADR procedure. The procedure is highly interesting for rights holders: In the second half of 2024, there were a total of 38 new ADR proceedings, with the rights holder prevailing in two thirds of these proceedings. “This extension reinforces our commitment to protecting rights holders and ensuring fair domain name practices”, says EURid.
