Ireland's .ie has launched a public consultation

Postby Research » Thu 16. Jan 2025, 12:40

The Irish Government's Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications launched a public consultation for the management of the .ie country code extension on December 17, 2024. The aim of the consultation is to define the key requirements and principles to be adopted by the .ie registry as part of the telecommunications infrastructure. It is divided into four areas: “The .ie ccTLD Manager's roles and responsibilities”, “Governance and management of the .ie ccTLD”, “Stakeholder engagement” and “Future risks to the security and stability of .ie”. While the Irish government showed little interest in .ie until a few years ago, it has been more present at international forums such as the IGF and ICANN in recent years in order to ultimately exert more influence via “terms of endorsement”. “This endorsement agreement will aim to set out the core principles, shared by the parties, and provide safeguards around the management of the .ie registry”, according to the ministry. The deadline for submitting comments is Friday, February 14, 2025 at 5:30 pm.
