.nl provides more security

With the support of the .nl registry SIDN, the Registrars' Association (RA) has published a security.txt plugin for the WordPress content management system. The WordPress plugin considerably simplifies the publication of the security.txt file. The file is stored in a standardised location and can be read by both humans and machines. This should make it easier to contact the website operator in the event of security-related problems. Security experts and white-hat hackers can use the file to find out who they should contact if they encounter a security problem. This in turn helps the recipient of the discovery report - for example, a company from which files have been stolen and offered for sale on the dark web - to take immediate action to prevent or mitigate damage. The RA plugin utilises previously provided contact details and allows a website operator to add a security.txt file to their website even if they are not familiar with the underlying standard. ‘With the security.txt project, we are adding value to our members and supporters while working with SIDN, SIDN Fund and other stakeholders to make the internet safer and enable relevant stakeholders to engage with each other more quickly and easily,’ said RA Chairman Berend van Dalfzen.
