The Coordination Center for TLD RU, registry of the Russian country code extension .ru, has published an activity report for the year 2023. According to the report, exactly 5,439,137 .ru domains were registered at the end of 2023, an increase of 12.7 percent; in addition, 768,883 domains were registered under the Cyrillic variant of .ru. According to the registry, .ru is thus the growth leader among all ccTLDs and occupies sixth place in the ccTLD world rankings. The report is also dedicated to information security and the fight against malware. In total, there were 54,977 notifications from the competent authorities to registrars about the use of .ru domains for malicious activities, an increase of 236.79 percent compared to the previous year 2022. In 2023, the development of "Domain Patrol" also continued; twelve "competent organizations" are currently working with domain registrars to eliminate threats based on six "maliciousness criteria" and ensure the security of the Russian domain namespace. As a precaution, we would like to point out that all these figures are based on information provided by the registry; it cannot be ruled out that .ru has become part of Russian war propaganda.
