Rwanda's .rw breaks new ground with short domains

Postby Research » Thu 1. Aug 2024, 21:30

The Rwanda Internet Community and Technology Alliance (RICTA) Ltd. is working on an exciting evolution of the .rw country code extension it manages. The registry is currently preparing to introduce .rw domains consisting of just one or two characters. The move follows a trend seen in other countries around the world and promises significant benefits for both customers and registrars, RICTA said in a statement. The aim is to offer more opportunities for branding and online identity with shorter and more memorable domains. "Clients who have long wished to own a short RW domain for their brands will now have the chance to acquire one. Registrars, in turn, will benefit from this as it adds another valuable service to their current offerings," says Grace Ingabire, CEO of RICTA. The exact process for registering these usually highly sought-after one- and two-character domains will be announced shortly. However, RICTA is already encouraging all interested parties to keep up to date with the latest announcements on the RICTA website to ensure they do not miss out on this opportunity.
