Switzerland is working to improve the security of its domain

Together with his colleagues Martin Candinas and Priska Seiler Graf, Swiss National Councillor Michael Götte (SVP/SG) wants to protect domain names ending in .ch and .swiss even more strongly against misuse. “The Federal Council should ensure that these are only issued to clearly identified natural or legal persons in future,” the trio demand. In addition, it should not only be possible to block such domain names in cases of abuse such as phishing or the distribution of malicious software (malware), but also in other cases of abuse. According to Götte, the registration obligations are insufficiently complied with in everyday life. The initiative was successful and the Federal Council requested the adoption of all three motions. “Now the matters will go to the relevant committees and then to the two councils. I hope that these bodies will also look at our improvements with an open mind, because one thing is clear: the current situation urgently needs to be improved,” says Götte.
