Nominet, administrator of the British country code extension .uk, has published the 2024 annual report for its Dispute Resolution Service (DRS). According to the report, the number of dispute proceedings rose from 511 in 2023 to 608 in 2025. However, there are also statistical reasons for this; cases that were opened in one year and closed in another are now counted in the year they were closed. 506 of these 608 cases concerned .co.uk domains, with a further 73 domains registered directly under .uk. The most common sectors for disputes were retail (21), food, drink and restaurants (16), banking and finance (14), biotechnology and pharmaceuticals (10) and automotive (10). In 45 percent of all disputes, a decision was made to transfer the domain; this is a slight decrease compared to 2023, when 48 percent of cases resulted in the transfer of the domain, but is largely in line with the figures from previous years. The proceedings themselves are international; the complainants came from 30 countries and the respondents from 44 countries. With an average duration of 60 days (“summary decision”) or 78 days (“full decision”) until a judgment is reached, the DRS takes longer than UDRP proceedings, but it is still significantly faster than ordinary civil proceedings.
