Amazon will soon start registering .free domains

Postby Research » Thu 6. Feb 2025, 14:29

Seattle-based Amazon Registry Services Inc. is entering the market with three more generic top-level domains. “Amazon Registry launches .free, .hot and .spot April 2, 2025” according to the company website. Further information is sparse and can only be found on the ICANN website. Accordingly, April 2, 2025 marks the start of a sunrise period in which trademark owners can register their domains with priority - provided the trademark has an entry in the Trademark Clearinghouse. The Trademark Claims Period will then begin on May 12, 2025; the live phase should also start at the same time. Information on the registration requirements is currently still lacking, which raises hopes that Amazon is aiming for general and free registration on a first come, first served basis. It is also not yet possible to say how much the registration fees will be.
