Washington (DC)-based DotCooperation LLC, registry of the .coop top level domain, has announced that it will soon publish a world map for co-operatives. The map, which will be updated regularly, is intended to be the first step in revolutionising the way cooperatives connect, communicate and showcase their global impact. It was developed with the support of the Digital Commons Cooperative and uses freely available software to bring together data from numerous organisations around the world. To date, over 12,000 co-operatives have been added to the map. It provides information on co-operatives sorted by name, sector or type through search functions including country, main activity, registration under .coop and membership of the International Cooperative Alliance. The aim is that consumers can use it to find reputable co-operatives from which they can purchase products or services. A demo site of the Cooperative World Map will be launched during the International Cooperative Alliance conference in New Delhi in November 2024, with a full launch planned for 2025.
