New York-based Orange Domains LLC, a joint venture between Trust Machines, Tucows and Hiro Systems, has gone live with the .locker top-level domain it manages. From now on, anyone worldwide can register .locker domains, which are allocated on a first come, first served basis. The .locker extension stands at the interface between Web2 and Web3 by using domains and digital identities on the Bitcoin blockchain. This means that .locker domains can be used to utilise the ecosystems of Web3 apps that are supported by the security level of Bitcoin. Once you register a .locker domain, you will receive an email to claim your digital identity and sign up for a digital wallet, which you will need for Web3 apps. Using .locker domains, each owner can link their digital assets, NFTs and crypto wallets with a human-readable name that serves as an easy-to-remember username. Or as the registry puts it: ‘Anyone can get started with web3, and .locker is here to make that happen.’ Independently of this, .locker domains can be used like .com or .de domains, for example to address a website or for email correspondence.
