Edinburgh-based Bentley Motors Limited has terminated the Registry Agreement (RA) with the Internet registry ICANN for the .bentley brand extension. In a letter dated Friday, December 13, 2024, the British car manufacturer, which has been part of the Volkswagen Group since 1998, terminated the contractual relationship that had been in place since December 2014. As is usual with .brands, the termination is based on Section 4.4 (b) of the RA, which allows ordinary termination at any time subject to a notice period of 180 days. The company did not provide any further details on the motives for its termination, but they are once again obvious: the number of registered domains has fluctuated around the 25 mark for years, and the number of domains listed on Google is also manageable, especially as they are often only used to redirect to the main website bentleymotors.com. For Bentley Motors Limited, the chapter on its own top-level domain is thus closed for the time being; the company does not have any other .brands.
