The French nTLD consultant Jean Guillon (Jovenet Consulting) has indicated that there could be an application for the new top level domain .seo. The abbreviation SEO stands for “Search Engine Optimization” and is used to increase the visibility of a website on the Internet. From Guillon's point of view, there are several good reasons why .seo could be a success. In France alone, there are between 5,000 and 30,000 SEO experts; this gives an idea of the potential of such a domain extension worldwide. He also assumes that .seo domains can be better processed by Google as they are specifically dedicated to search engine optimization. As everyone wants to be at the top of Google's list, he also believes that premium domains under .seo will become popular very quickly. He is firmly convinced that new top level domains will make search engine results more accurate. In any case, such new domain endings make more sense than Web3 domains, which are so complicated to register and set up that they do not work in most common browsers. However, Guillon did not give a specific name of who could apply for .seo. ICANN is currently expected to accept applications for a new generic top-level domain in Q2 2026.
