Reserved .zuerich domains are available for registration

Postby Research » Thu 4. Jul 2024, 10:25

This year, the Canton of Zurich is once again releasing protected names below the .zuerich top-level domain for use in an application procedure. This includes domain names in which there is an increased public or special interest, this year digital.zuerich and feuerwehr.zuerich. These domains are not available for direct registration; instead, they are allocated periodically via an allocation procedure. The registry then examines how the use of the requested domain will correspond to the increased public or special interests, which persons, groups of persons, sectors or institutions are affected by the requested designation or have a special interest in it, and how the use of the domain will sufficiently represent or benefit the persons, groups of persons, sectors or institutions concerned. The fee for the allocation of a reserved name is a one-off net amount of CHF 800, i.e. approximately EUR 831 plus the annual registration fees. But be careful: Domains under .zuerich are exclusively available to companies and organizations under public law operating in the Canton of Zurich, so there is no general, free registration. Interested parties who meet the general registration requirements can register their interest in the allocation of one or more reserved domain names until July 16, 2024.
