The top level domain .music has started its regular registration process. From now on, all members of the music community can register their .music domain on a first come, first served basis. However, the registration and use of .music domains is reserved exclusively for verified members so that they can protect, control and monitor their identity on the Internet. Anyone who has registered a .music domain must therefore have it activated in a second step via the identity service provider id.music; only then can the domain be used. The activation requires the creation of a separate account with id.music; in addition, the desired .music domain must already be registered. The registry points out that the aim is to restrict unauthorised AI deepfakes, voice cloning and the unauthorised use of intellectual property in order to distinguish music (or content) created by real, authenticated humans from music (or content) created entirely by AI or bots. ‘The .MUSIC domain and its connected MusicID will provide a trusted, secure, and authentic music-centric Internet where the global music community can safely connect, engage, transact and thrive,’ said Constantine Roussos, CEO of DotMusic Limited.
