Will there be a spectacular registry change for .com?

Postby Research » Thu 24. Oct 2024, 17:13

Duty as a chronicler requires us to point out that a person named Sundram Tiwari has filed a “Request for Reconsideration” with ICANN on behalf of a company called Asxit LLC against the extension of the .com contract with VeriSign. The reason given is: “As the current operator, Verisign's management of the .COM registry has been monopolistic and lacks sufficient focus on supporting students, developers, startups, and universities-groups that would greatly benefit from more affordable and competitive domain options.” Tiwari also has an alternative: “I seek to become a registry operator committed to making .COM domains more affordable and accessible to students, startups, and developers. The decision to renew Verisign's contract hinders competition, limiting opportunities for more innovative registry operators like Asxit LLC to contribute to the digital ecosystem”. According to Asxit LLC, it primarily supports start-ups, students and small online companies. Tiwari does not believe that .com could be too big and has explained this in more detail in a 25-page appendix. ICANN is now forced to deal with the complaint formally; it has no chance of success.
